Academic Levels

Hong Kong Adventist Academy believes that education is so much more than rote learning. Here at HKAA students are encouraged to develop all aspects of learning opportunities in the spiritual, mental, social and physical areas of their life. Only when students have a balanced holistic approach to their studies can life-long learning truly take place.

A balanced approach to homework will allow students to optimize their learning, while still having the freedom to explore other areas of after-school interest and activities. HKAA offers a “through education” which allows students to start in primary and continue through to graduation.

PRIMARY

HKAA primary section starts at Grade 1 (Primary 1) and continues to Grade 5 (Primary 5).  Students that 5 years and eight months or older are accepted into Grade 1.  Since all class subjects, except for Chinese classes, are taught by English speaking teachers, enrolled students are expected to be able to operate with an acceptable degree of English competency. Chinese classes are taught in Putonghua by quality trained Chinese educators with classes split into local and international levels of speaking competency.

While HKAA is a private school it adheres to the local Hong Kong curriculum standards, while at the same time interjecting additional international standards in the subjects of English, Science, General Studies, and Moral Education.

Hong Kong Adventist Academy primary section will focus on the nine key areas of learning as set out by the Education Bureau. Within some of these sections, we integrate modified elements from the United States.

1. Chinese Language (Classes in Putonghua)

2. English Language

3. Mathematics

4. General Studies

5. Integrated Science

6. Information & Technology

7. Visual Arts

8. Music

9. Physical Education

10. Religious/Moral Education

MIDDLE SCHOOL

HKAA middle school section starts at Grade 6 (Primary 6) and continues to Grade 8 (Secondary 2). Since all class subjects, except for Chinese classes, are taught by English speaking teachers, enrolled students are expected to be able to operate with an acceptable degree of English competency. Our school offers specialized English classes for students who meet academic standards but may need additional assistance with their English proficiency.

HKAA High School students will receive an American Standard High School Diploma or a College Preparatory Diploma upon graduation. Their diploma reflects their studies in a wide variety of subjects including Chinese language (Putonghua).  Students also have the opportunity to enroll in Advanced Placement (AP) or honors classes as well as some specialized English and Math labs if they need additional help.

Highlights of the school year include a variety of activities. Students enjoy a variety of trips and extra-curricular opportunities.  Among these are a mandatory ten days mission/service trip to another country, an educational science, history, or language trip (focus varies each year) to the US or Europe.
